TOURISM in Bali was began in the early 1920s, since the Royal Dutch steam packet company added the island to its itinerary. Bali's entirely unique has been endlessly charming to Westerners, the paradigm of tropical beauty and exotic adventure. Many visitors were experiencing the pleasures of the island. They came for a few days of romantic escapism.

After the World War II, Bali was celebrated in songs and movies, which produced a small increase in visitors. Facilities were still few, the infrastructure nonexistent. The political upheaval of the Soekarno regime years was not conducive to Western tourism, but it was during the turbulent '60s that the first international-class luxury hotel, Bali Beach Hotel in Sanur was built in 1963.

Since the Bali Beach Hotel couldn't accommodate everyone, traditional style 'bungalow' or 'cottage' accommodations rose along the southern beaches. Restaurants, art shops and travel agencies appeared. In Kuta, enterprising villagers opened home stays, restaurants, shops and vehicle rental outlets. Kuta's family-owned enterprises sank revenues back into the local economy directly benefiting the villagers.

Nowadays, hundreds of hotels, villas, homestays in Bali were built at many tourism areas, at shore, mountain range, rice field or many place that liked the tourist come to Bali. It's not amazing when early of century the shipping company of Holland made brochures to promote firstly about Bali as main destination of tourism that content many images about natural beauty of Bali. They called Bali as "Garden of Eden".
